What will taking this National Outdoor Top Rope Instructor Certification Course do for me?

1. This course will certify you as a National Outdoor Top Rope Instructor.

2. This course will certify that you have been taught to safely and properly manage every single aspect of outdoor top rope rock climbing and rappelling.

3. This course will thoroughly train you in every single aspect of how to always keep yourself safe, how to always keep your top rope site safe and properly managed, and how to always keep your top rope clients safe.

4. This course will teach you how to choose a safe top rope site; how to set up and master top rope anchor systems, how to recognize and then eliminate every possible risk to yourself, to your natural environment, to your top rope site, and to your top rope group.

5. It is Jim Ebert's belief that a Certified Outdoor Top Rope Instructor should be able to work with top rope clients for a lifetime and never, ever have a single 'top rope client' accident or injury, and never get injured themselves.

6. Jim's Ebert's National Outdoor Top Rope Instructor Certification Course will cover every single aspect of top rope climbing to assure that each certified top rope instructor is the safest and the best in the field.

Who Should Take Jim's National Top Rope Instructor Certification Course?

Anyone that teaches, instructs, or is in charge of managing outdoor top rope rock climbing or rappelling with any segment of the General Public.

What does the cost include?

The cost for taking this six day National Top Rope Instructor Certification Course is $650. This includes: all climbing equipment, over 75 hours of intensive instruction, and National Outdoor Top Rope Instructor Certification.

What about food and lodging?

    It is our belief that our course participants deserve the freedom to pick the comfort level that they will most appreciate while taking this very concentrated National Outdoor Top Rope Instructor Certification Course. Participants will be able to stay in motels, camp out, cookout or eat in restaurants. Participants will be given the names of the other course participants in their specific course session so that they can make specific arrangements with other course participants to either stay at the same motel or perhaps share a campsite. This will allow the most personal freedom to each individual course participant in choosing a combination of comfort that works best for you. There are hundreds of motels, restaurants, and as many as six major campgrounds to choose from to make your participation as convenient as possible, all located within a short ten minute drive of Devil's Lake State Park, the site for all of our training. A list with hundreds of motels, restaurants, and camp grounds will be sent out to each participant. We will put you into direct contact with both the Baraboo and the Wisconsin Dells Tourist Bureau Web Sites that list every single motel, restaurant, and camp ground with hundreds of direct contact web site addresses and reservation numbers.

What about college credit?

8 CEU's are available through Kirkwood Community College for completing Jim Ebert's National Top Rope Instructor Certification Course.

Why offer the National Top Rope Certification Course at Devil's Lake State Park, Wisconsin?

Devil's Lake State Park offers some of the countries finest and safest top rope climbing, definitely some of the finest quartzite granite, most assuredly some of the finest and most spectacular hiking, and absolutely some of the most scenic vistas of any State Park in the Nation. This spectacular Wisconsin State Park, located near the center of the country, only thirty five miles from Madison, and six from Baraboo, ten from Wisconsin Dells, has a three and one half mile circumference spring fed lake that is surrounded by towering 500 foot quartzite bluffs that is conveniently surrounded by many great choices in motel accommodations, by many large and efficient campgrounds for camping and grilling out, and by many choices for restaurant dining and by many forms of water parks and unique tourist entertainment. Yet this Park continues to maintain it's precious secluded beauty, and it's unique and quite atmosphere while affording to the mid-west's most appreciative outdoor people the greatest rock climbing and scenic hiking opportunities available in the mid-west. Outdoor enthusiasts can truly appreciate all of the incredible recreational opportunities that this Park can provide to everyone who desires it, as it is one of the finest and most scenic recreational state parks to be found anywhere in North America. We will teach each and every participant how to care for this type of precious resource so others can continue to enjoy these types of rock climbing havens long into the future.

What should I bring with me?

If you are staying in a motel your equipment list might look like this:

bulletWear comfortable cotton clothing or your personal choice for rock climbing while outdoors. The temperatures can range from 55 degrees at night to 85-90 plus degrees during the day during the courses held throughout the summer. There is always lots of shade but dressing comfortably is important.
bullet5 hiking shorts.
bullet5 T-shirts.
bulletLightweight hiking shoes for approaches if you have weak ankles, otherwise jogging shoes are fine.
bulletTevas or cross-country sandels for relaxing your feet after climbing.
bulletRain jacket/parka with hood.
bulletSynthetic long pants (jogging).
bulletSynthetic pile shirt and jacket.
bulletJogging shoes.
bullet5 pair socks.
bulletBring your own technical climbing shoes if you wish, or these can be rented from Erehwon Mountain Outfitter in Madison, Wisconsin (608)833-9191 (located 35 minutes for Devil's Lake State Park) or rent them from Wheeler's Campground located just 2 minutes outside Devil's Lake State Park (608)356-4877. Ask for special "six" day rental rates. Do not get these rental climbing shoes fitted "tightly" or "painful", they only need to be "comfortable, keep toes straight, not bent" for the rock climbing that we will be doing.
